Robert Dale Wondercheck
March 2, 1948 - July 21, 2026
ROBERT DALE WONDERCHECK, age 78, of Loveland, Colorado, gained his wings for his next beautiful journey that will know only love, peace, and freedom on July 21, 2026, with a family in life who adored him, loved his constant teasing, and will forever miss the sound of him telling a story that absolutely left a smile in your heart because it was always accompanied by his contagious laugh.
Born on March 2, 1948, in Atkinson, NE. Dale grew up to be known as a gentle giant with a big heart and a talent for fixing things that probably should have been replaced. He believed that the tools in his shop and his sheer determination could solve almost anything. And honestly, he wasn’t wrong.
Dale graduated from Minatare High School in 1967 and served his country in the U.S. Army, completing a tour in Vietnam. He married Cheryl Shinbur April 4, 1971 and to this union, 3 wonderful children blessed their lives.
Dale was the kind of person who made friends everywhere he went— the grocery store, the gas station, the waiting room at the doctor’s office. If you stood still long enough, he’d tell you a story, give you advice, or make you laugh. Sometimes all three.
He loved his wife, his family, fast cars, woodworking, and teasing the grandkids, and he approached each one with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything else in life. He was a master of “be there in a minute,” especially when he was supposed to be coming inside, to leave whatever he may be working on or fiddling with in the shop.
Dale leaves behind a family who will forever carry his humor, his grit, and his ability to make the best out of whatever life handed him: His beautiful, loving and totally supportive wife of 55 years, Cheryl, his children - Tony Wondercheck, Cori Wondercheck (Frank Hill), Tracy Wondercheck (Danielle); his grandchildren - Jessy Huston, Jamie Newman (Kamille), Michael Newman (Maddie), Chance Newman(Taylor Mcguire), Alyssa Wondercheck(Slade Hopkins), Robin Wondercheck; 4 great grandchildren; his brothers Marvin Wondercheck and Keith Wondercheck, his sisters -Vivian Thornton, Colleen Freeman, Kimberly Walsh along with countless friends and family, and friends who are family. He also leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of wisdom you only get from someone who lived fully, loved deeply, and never passed up the chance to make someone smile.
We know he’s somewhere telling a story, cracking a joke, or giving someone advice they didn’t ask for and probably racing cars with his well-earned wings. And we wouldn’t want it any other way.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date where we will honor him the way he would want — with good stories, warm memories, and at least one person saying, “You’re not going to believe what he did once…” & “Do you remember that time he…..”
Dale, we love you. We miss you selfishly. And we promise to keep loving deeply and unconditionally, forgive always and keep laughing — because you taught us how and your legacy will live through us - Thank you for being you, we are blessed and better people becacuse you were in our lives.
