Torrington tracksters prove their grit at Wiseman Invite

Torrington High School tracksters brought their A-game as the hosts of the 2024 THS Wiseman Invite on Friday, May 3. The Lady Blazers captured third place as a team with 106 points. The Blazer boys came in fifth place with 55 points.

Top three highlights include:

Girls

Sophomore Brooklyn Asmus won both the 100-meters, posting a time of 12.03 seconds, and the 200-meters at 24.72 seconds.

Junior Jaycee Hurley snagged gold in the 300-hurdles, clocking in at 49.65 seconds. Hurley also placed third in the 100-meters with a time of 12.79 seconds.

Hurley, Asmus, sophomore Natalie Hawes and senior Alyssa Wondercheck pulled into first place in the 4x100-meter relay at 50.52 seconds.

The 1600-meter sprint medley relay team – Hawes, sophomore Trishell Pontarolo, Wondercheck and sophomore Natalie Long – garnered gold, timing in at 4 minutes, 31.99 seconds.

Hawes snapped up second place in the 100-hurdles, crossing the finish line in 16.75 seconds.

Pontarolo secured second place in the triple jump, clearing 34 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

Wondercheck picked up third place in the long jump with a leap of 16-09.

Freshman Kaia Jacobson came in third place in the discus, hitting a mark of 107-04.

Boys

Senior Tyler Bennick finished second in the shot put, clearing 55-05 1/4, and placed third in the discus at 134-09.

Senior Trey Parriott took third place in the shot put with a mark of 49-08 1/4.

Junior Evan Hellus captured second place in the long jump, clearing 20-06 3/4, and came in third place in the triple jump, at 41-02.

Senior Jorey Asmus, sophomore Brady Dagen, senior Zabdiel Munoz and junior Tyler Nicolay placed third in the 4x800-relay at 9:56.53
