TORRINGTON – According to a recent press release, the Goshen County Historical Society will be celebrating their of the year program with the WyoRing Handbell Choir on Tuesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the East Gate Baptist Church, located at 1715 East L Street in Torrington.

“The WyoBell Ringers will provide a performance during which the ringers will play several pieces. The interplay between the ringer and their bell creates a rich tapestry of sound, reliant on precise ensemble configurations, a diverse repertoire, and refined conducting techniques,” the press release states.

According to the release, director Joyce Willeke will present a short history of the bell’s origin.

“They first appeared in the seventh century when monks crafted them to signal the passing of time and call worshipers to prayer. The rich timbre of the handbell has not only filled the air with melodious harmony but also served as a communal beacon, resonating through centuries of cultural evolution and technological progress,” the release said.
