THS trio earn all-conference accolades

TORRINGTON – Two Torrington High School Lady Blazers and an athlete on the Blazer boys’ basketball team captured 3A all-conference recognition for the 2023-2024 season.

Juniors Teryn Stokes and Jaycee Hurley both earned all-conference accolades on the girls’ team, while junior Mac Hibben represented the Blazers on the all-conference roster.

Stokes also garnered 3A all-state honors (see writeup above).

Hurley excelled on both defense and offense, filling out the stat sheet with 142 points for the season, 105 rebounds, 34 assists and 37 steals.

“Jaycee Hurley possesses the ability to take over a game offensively, defensively or by finding her teammates for open shots,” coach Chris Strampe said. “She is a great leader and can always be counted on to be focused and passionate on the court or at practice.”

Hurley dedicated countless hours to improving her basketball skills before and during the season, even while rehabbing from a knee injury, Strampe noted.

“The amount of effort and hard work Jaycee put into preparing herself to be able to play this season is truly commendable and a testament to her commitment to our team,” Strampe said. “I know Jaycee will be even better next season and I look forward to celebrating all of the future successes she has earned.”

Hibben led the Blazers in scoring for the season, with 179 points, and on the boards, pulling down 100 rebounds. The junior also delivered 23 assists over the course of the season, snatched 27 steals and posted six blocks.

Hibben netted 21 outside shots for the season and drained 12 of 17 free throws (71 percent), the highest accuracy at the charity stripe among the Blazers’ starting lineup.

Hibbert tossed in 22 points against Mitchell, Nebraska, on January 11 and repeated the performance against Glenrock on February 22 – both highpoints for Hibben and the team during 2023-2024.

On the boards, Hibben pulled down 10 rebounds against Rawlins on February 23, the best performance for the season and team.

Hibben posted a field goal percentage of 60 percent against both Glenrock (February 22) and Rawlins (February 23).

Junior Olive Osmera and sophomore Natalie Long each received 3A all-conference honorable mention for the Lady Blazers.

“These two players were just as critical to the success of our team as Teryn and Jaycee and were continuously tasked with taking on tough defensive assignments and critical roles within our game plan,” coach Strampe said.
