Southeast tracksters kick off 2024 season at Chadron State

Posted

CHADRON – Both the Southeast High School boys and girls outdoor track teams commenced the 2024 spring season with solid performances at the Chadron State College High School Invitational on March 16.

Even though the meet marked the official start of the outdoor track season for the Cyclones and Lady Cyclones, the invitational was held on indoor facilities at the Nelson Physical Activity Center. The event featured more than 300 athletes from across Nebraska and South Dakota.

Southeast senior Harper Boche clinched first place in the girls shot put with a toss measured in at 38 feet, 1 ½ inches. Boche left her competition in the dust, launching the shot put nearly five feet, five inches beyond the mark hit by the runner-up, Olivia Lyon, of Chadron (32-07).

The Cyclones and Lady Cyclones “competed well” against “tough competition” from the region, coach Jeff Fullmer said.

“We had a good weekend at Chadron overall,” Fullmer added. “I was happy with the effort and attitude the athletes displayed. There were pretty good times and distances put up and we ended up with quite a few girls placing in several events. We are encouraged by what we saw and look forward to  upcoming meets.”
