Southeast track raises bar in Cheyenne

Posted

CHEYENNE – The Southeast High School outdoor track team squared off against significantly larger schools at the annual Okie Blanchard Invite hosted by Cheyenne East on April 5.

Southeast was the smallest school competing at the meet, but both the girls’ and boys’ teams confidently stepped up to the challenge to earn hardware and post new personal records.

The Cyclones’ relatively young team competed entirely in the junior varsity division. Several Lady Cyclones entered the varsity competition with the remainder participating in JV.

Senior Harper Boche captured gold in the varsity girls shot put, vying against athletes from 4A programs to hit a mark of 37 feet, 1 inch.

“I was impressed with our performance this weekend,” coach Jeff Fullmer said. “The girls really stepped up and competed well. They didn’t shy away from the bigger schools that were there.”

Southeast tracksters demonstrated growth at Cheyenne East, Fullmer added.

“We improved in almost all events and are starting to figure some things out, so that is encouraging,” Fullmer continued. “Mental toughness is still a work in progress and I think a couple more weeks of good conditioning will help with that.”
