GOSHEN COUNTY – A successful season for 1A and 2A basketball teams in Goshen County culminated with seven athletes capturing all-state honors from the Wyoming Coaches Association.

Lady Cyclones

Southeast High School senior Baylie Booth and sophomore Kaycee Kosmicki both earned 1A all-state accolades.

Booth led the Lady Cyclones in scoring (225 points), assists (43) and steals (71). The senior finished the season ranked seventh in the conference for scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game, and fifth in the conference for steals, at 3.1 per game.

“Baylie is a good, hard-working, very talented athlete,” coach Jennifer Scheer said. “She brings a lot to the table, both offensively and defensively. Baylie has a huge motor and never quits.”

Kosmicki was a team leader on the boards, pulling down 106 rebounds. Filling out the stat sheet for the season, Kosmicki posted 156 points, 35 assists and 60 steals.

The junior rounded out the season ranked fifth in the conference for free throws, shooting at 58 percent from the charity stripe, and eighth in steals, at 2.7 per game.

“Kaycee’s play in the down stretch at regionals and state really made her shine and caught the notice of the coaches,” Scheer said. “She showed tremendous growth over the season and from her freshman year.”

Lady Doggers

Two athletes from the Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers snagged all-state honors – senior Natalie Speckner and sophomore Skyla Wunder.

Speckner finished the season ranked No. 2 in both the conference and all-class for steals, averaging 4.8 per game. The senior was fourth in the conference for scoring at 12.6 points per game, and fourth in rebounding, at eight per game.

Speckner tallied 354 points for LFL during the season, along with 223 rebounds, 49 assists and 134 steals.

Speckner exhibited exceptional leadership and sportsmanship throughout the season.

“This is Natalie’s second year earning all-state and she is a fourth-year varsity letter and all-conference award winner,” coach Susan Bartel said. “She is an amazing person and player and was just shy of 1,000 points in her career at LFL.”

Wunder led the conference in both steals (4.9 per game) and 3-pointers (33 percent). Wunder finished the season ranked No. 2 in both the conference and all-class for scoring, posting 14.8 points per game.

Wunder netted 385 season points, pulled down 115 rebounds, delivered 50 assists and snagged 128 steals.

“This is Skyla’s first all-state award and second all-conference award,” Bartel said. “She is a very talented player and natural athlete. Skyla is a killer shooter.”

Cyclones

Southeast junior Ayden Desmond and sophomore T.J. Moats earned all-state recognition.

Desmond netted 15.3 points per game – ranked third in the conference. The junior rounded out the season fifth in the conference and sixth in all-class for field goal percentages at 54 percent.

Desmond led the Cyclones in season scoring (387 points), assists (58) and steals (47). He also pulled down 175 rebounds.

“Ayden is an all-around basketball player,” coach Craig Leithead said. “He led the team in points and was able to put games on his shoulders to get the job done. The team’s game was planned around Ayden.”

Moats was first in the conference and second in all-class for blocks, averaging 2.3 per game and totaling 63 for the season. On the boards, Moats pulled down 8.3 rebounds per game – fifth in the conference.

Moats posted 277 season points, 223 rebounds (team leader), 24 assists and 28 steals.

“T.J. was a needed addition to our team with his size and athletic ability,” Leithead said. “His shot blocking and rebounding were key in our success this year. The team’s game was also planned around T.J.”

Doggers

LFL sophomore Brady Cook garnered 2A all-state honors.

Cook led the conference and all-class stat sheet in rebounding (10 per game), blocks (3.4 per game) and field-goal percentages (69 percent).

Cook broke the all-time block record for LFL originally set by Ken Newhouse during the 1982-1983 season with 83 blocks in 2023-2024. Newhouse’s original record stood at 59 blocks.

Averaging 3.5 blocks per game, Cook also broke Newhouse’s record in blocks per game.

Cook shot at 69.23 percent from the floor, shattering the school’s field-goal percentage set by Newhouse in 1982-1983 at 58 percent.

“Brady eclipsed the old record by quite a significant margin,” coach Chris Cook said. “He had six games this year where he only missed one shot and three games where he missed two.”
