Scheer named 1A basketball coach of the year

TORRINGTON – The Wyoming Coaches Association honored the Southeast High School Lady Cyclones’ head coach Jennifer Scheer as the 1A Girls Basketball Coach of the Year on April 2.
Scheer felt “very grateful” to receive the award and gave full credit for the Lady Cyclones’ success to the Southeast coaching staff and players on the team.
During the course of the 2023-2024 winter season, Scheer worked with coaches Monica Anderson and Emily Buchanan.
“I’ve worked with Monica for an extended period and we have been fortunate to have Emily with the team for several years,” Scheer said. “I can’t tell you how valuable both of those individuals are to the program.”

Scheer prefers the term “co-coaches” when refering to Anderson and Buchanan.
“They both do so much behind the scenes – from leading practice and doing drills to facilitating things and making decisions on the road,” Scheer added. “Between the three of us, we make a pretty formidable team. They keep me grounded. There is no way I could do this without them.”
A successful 2023-2024 season for the Lady Cyclones culminated with Southeast capturing the 1A state title after defeating Upton, 45-40, in the championship game. The Lady Cyclones posted an impressive 20-7 overall record and a 5-1 conference record.
The players on the court, “wearing the Lady Cyclones jerseys,” deserve a substantial share of the recognition for the team’s achievements, Scheer said.
“We didn’t have the easiest path to what turned out to be a tremendous season, but I can’t give each of the kids enough credit for the amount of fight they put in during the season,” Scheer said. “You can’t coach those things – that work ethic is instilled in them at an early age. I am blessed to have tremendous athletes and a tremendous team. This is a testament to the community.”
Scheer expressed gratitude to all the additional folks who work “behind the scenes”– from team managers to parents – to contribute to the Lady Cyclones’ accomplishments.
