TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Robert “Pete” Jr. Peterson, 79, will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Julie Newman officiating. Pete passed away peacefully January 20, 2025, at the Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard, Nebraska. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday January 23, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the casket will be open prior to the service. Pete was Born December 12, 1945, in Torrington to Robert and Florence (Hickox) Peterson at the Elk’s building which was known as the Platte Valley Hospital at the time. He grew up in Fort Laramie where he graduated high school May 21, 1964.
After graduating high school, he went into the Air Force as a field mechanic where he was deployed to Thailand during Vietnam. He married Donna Jean Hopkins on June 8, 1967, in Phoenix, Arizona where they lived until moving back to Torrington in 1968. It was in Torrington where together they raised their family. He was a mechanic at many shops and dealerships in the area, while doing this he also helped his father on the Peterson homestead outside of Fort Laramie put up lots of hay. He carried on his father’s tradition almost thirty years after his passing. He also worked as a fertilizer applicator for Panhandle Co-op until his retirement.
Pete was very passionate about his classic cars, especially his 1928 Dodge Coach Sedan. He enjoyed attending car shows, gambling, watching baseball and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Pete is survived by his children, Bobby (Shelley) Peterson, Randy (Jennifer) Peterson and Joey Peterson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Francis (Nancy) Peterson, Shirley Joy, Danny Peterson, Jimmy (Joyce) Peterson, Roger (Pam) Peterson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna Peterson; parents, Robert “Swede” and Florence Peterson and sister Eleanor “Sissy” Springer.
