Marcia was born in Clarinda, Iowa to Wendell and Mary (Annan) Eggers. She was raised north of Jay Em then eventually the family moved to Huntley where she graduated from high school.  As the daughter of a sheep rancher and home economics teacher, she and her sister Eleanor spent a lot of their childhood watching after the sheep herd in the prairie of Jay Em while always watching for rattlesnakes in the sagebrush.

She married William Hort of Lyman, Nebraska on April 29, 1951. To this union four children were born. After farming in the Yoder area, William passed away in 1969, leaving her with four kids to raise by herself. With grit, determination and a lot of hard work, she did it. In 1970, Marcia began working at the department of family services. While working and raising her family, she took college classes to keep her job. Her role as a social worker was very important to her and she helped many people, from families to the elderly, in her 25 years of service. She knew first-hand the hardships of life. That knowledge helped her help others. Marcia’s family was important to her as was sharing holiday meals and traditions. She enjoyed genealogy, all kinds of history, western movies and novels, and sports. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and Historic Society.

Marcia is survived by sons Robert Hort of Harrisburg, Nebraska and Steven (Tammy) Hort of Sterling, Colorado, and daughters Kathy (Larry) Foltz and Vicky Harris both of Torrington, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and grandchildren Jennifer Hort and Patrick Harris.
