CASPER – The culmination of a successful season for the combined Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast (LFLSE) boys’ wrestling team resulted in a third-place finish at the 2024 Wyoming State Wrestling Championships in Casper on February 22-24.

LFLSE garnered 174 team points to beat 20 other teams in the 2A division. Moorcroft took first with 236 points, followed by Kemmerer in second at 203 points.

LFLSE’s epic finish to the season was highlighted by three state champions (see above). Senior Kaleb Brothwell clinched the state title in the 144-pound bracket. Junior Nathan Fish secured the championship at 120 pounds while fellow junior Louden Bremer snagged gold in the 150-pound bracket.

“We had an extremely successful season,” coach Brandon Gifford said. “To be able to go 4-for-4 in the finals and having 11 total medalists was an awesome experience for me as a coach and a proud moment for sure. I’m just so happy for all of our wrestlers and the work they put in. Bringing home a trophy is a big deal, and I know that is something that will stay with our wrestlers for a long time.”

In the quarterfinals at 120 pounds, Fish pinned Lovell’s Zayden Stahl at 3 minutes, 41 seconds before progressing to the semifinals where he defeated Jackie Meador, of Big Piney, by an 8-2 decision.

The championship round pitted Fish against Cannon Boren, of Thermopolis. Fish battled Boren through three periods, progressively picking up points with a series of takedowns to win the championship by an 11-3 decision.

At 144 pounds, Brothwell took down Reece Whisenant, of Greybull/Riverside, by fall 46 seconds into the quarterfinals. Advancing to the semifinals, Brothwell pinned Cokeville’s Clay Teichert in only 33 seconds.

Squaring off against Will Ward, of Thermopolis, in the championship round, Brothwell won by fall at 1:26.

Bremer battled Wright’s Tucker Edwards through three periods in the 150-pound quarterfinals before winning by a 10-8 decision.

Stepping onto the mats for the semifinals, Bremer defeated Thermopolis’ Seth Needham by a 9-3 decision. The first-place match between Bremer and David Farrington, of Big Piney, was close, with Bremer triumphing by a 4-3 decision.

Senior Wyatt Sylvester snagged third place in the 126-pound bracket. Sylvester beat Colter Price, of Thermopolis, by a 7-5 decision in the consolation semifinal before pinning Big Piney’s Zavier Clifford 38 seconds into the third-place match.

In the 175-pound division, senior Tiegen Thompson came in fourth place after Siler Hess, of Dubois, nine seconds into the second period of the consolation semifinal.

Sixth-place medalists included senior William Feyereisen at 138 pounds. Fellow senior Lance York earned sixth place in the 157-pound bracket. At 190 pounds, junior Carter Blevins came in sixth place. Rounding out the medalists, sophomore Colter McFarlin secured sixth place at 215 pounds.
