Lancers drop road game to LCCC

Posted

CHEYENNE – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancers squared off against conference rival, the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Golden Eagles, at an away game on February 17, with the Lancers falling in after closely-contested second half, 94-79.

LCCC controlled the scoreboard in the first half to lead, 46-35, as both teams headed for the locker rooms.

EWC put up a sustained fight to close the gap in the second half, with the Lancers netting 44 points to 48 from LCCC, before ultimately coming up short.

The Lancers bested LCCC in shooting from the free throw line – 92 percent to 66.7 percent – and EWC nearly matched LCCC in shooting from the outside – 38.1 percent to 38.5 percent. LCCC outperformed EWC from the floor, however, with LCCC posting a field goal percentage of 52 percent compared to 43 percent by EWC.

“It was a tough loss to a good LCCC team,” coach Tom Andersen said. “We fell behind in the first half and just could not overcome their athleticism and good shooting. The guys battled hard but were outplayed by the home team.”

Three Lancers netted double digits against LCCC, led by sophomore Micah Glover with 22 points. Freshmen Makhiah Tarver and Ryan Aye both tallied 14 points.

Freshman Jules Teboul contributed eight points, fellow freshman Nick KwoKam Ngomo six and Rodrigo Sanchez, also a freshman, totaling five.

On the boards, Teboul posted nine rebounds with Tarver adding seven. Glover delivered five assists and freshman Henos Fitwi picked up two steals.

EWC squares off against Gillette College on the road this Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
