Lancers battle Casper College, WWCC

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancers concluded the regular season with home games against Casper College and Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC). 

EWC fell to Casper College, 122-76, on Friday and came up short against WWCC, 96-84, on Saturday.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Lancers travel to play Casper College in the opening round of the NJCAA Region IX playoffs. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, at 4 p.m. in Casper College’s Thunderbird Gym.

Casper College

The Thunderbirds established a considerable 60-35 advantage in the first half against the Lancers. Casper College continued to control the scoreboard in the second half, netting 62 points while holding the Lancers to 41 points.

The Lancers outperformed the Thunderbirds at the free-throw line, shooting at 70.8 percent while Casper College tossed in 60 percent of its charity-stripe shots. The Thunderbirds topped EWC in shooting from both the floor (55.7 percent to 37.3 percent) and outside the perimeter (47.4 percent to 39.1 percent).

Sophomore Micah Glover led the Lancers in scoring against Casper College with 21 points. Freshman Henos Fitwi tossed in 13 points and fellow freshman Nick KwoKam Ngomo 12.

Freshman Makhiah Tarver pulled down eight rebounds with Glover posting seven. Glover, Fitwi and freshman Rodrigo Sanchez each delivered two assists.

WWCC

A neck-and-neck first half between the Lancers and WWCC found the Mustangs up by two possessions, 46-40, as the teams headed for the locker rooms.

The scoreboard remained close in a tight, physical second half, with the Lancers tossing in 44 points and WWCC netting 50 points.

Glover set the pace offensively for the Lancers, posting 28 points, including 10-for-11 at the free-throw line.

Tarver tallied 16 points with Fitwi and freshman Ryan Aye each scoring 11 points.

Tarver led on the boards with nine rebounds. Glover and Ngomo both grabbed three steals while Tarver made three assists.
