John was born March 9, 1939, in Torrington to John Henry Sr. and Lola (Grove) Hickman. He grew up in the Table Mountain area and attended school in Huntley where he graduated high school. After graduating high school, he did road construction for the next twenty-five years. He married Dorothy Jean Lampman on May 24, 1964, in Torrington at the Church of Nazarene. To this union two children were born, Raymond Lee Hickman and Jackie Lyn Hickman. He then worked for Holly Sugar for twenty-five plus years until his retirement.
One of the biggest highlights of his retirement years was spending time with his beloved grandson Matthew, together they shared lots of stories, laughter and love. A bond that was unbreakable. Fishing was often on the agenda for the two when they were together. John was often seen at the Main Street Market having his soda and cookies with his friends, and a regular at the senior center where he was a very social person. Some of John’s hobbies included fishing, gambling, working in his garage and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his children, Raymond and Jackie Hickman; grandson, Matthew Hickman; great-grandson Henry Hickman; siblings, Bob Hickman, Earl “Gene” Hickman and Lola Lynn Eitzen. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Sr. and Lola Hickman; his wife Dorothy; and three siblings.
