TORRINGTON – Graveside services for Jerry Ray Long, 88, of Torrington will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Valley View Cemetery with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. A reception will follow at the First Congregational Church.
Jerry passed away Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Torrington Community Hospital surrounded by the love of all of his family during his passing. Cremation has taken place.
Jerry, son of Merle Orin and Olive Edith (Six) Long, was born on September 4, 1937, in Bridgeport. His family relocated to Pavilion, Wyoming where he graduated from Morton High School in 1955. Soon after graduation, he met Peggy Alice Lacy and they married July 24, 1956. To this union, three children were born, Kyle Dean, Bryan “beaver” Keith and Maureen Leann.
Jerry was a very hard worker providing for his family. His lifelong love of operating heavy equipment included working in the oil fields and uranium mines around Riverton. He worked several years on the North Slope of Alaska with his brother-in-law’s building air strips and oil pads. Later, he worked in the gold mines in Nevada, then California, with the gas company. In 1994, he moved to Torrington to work for his son, Kyle.
Jerry’s family was most important to him. Family activities included riding horses, snowmobiling, camping and fishing at his favorite spot at Wiggins Fork north of DuBois. Jerry enjoyed outfitting Breyer horses with tack and wagons. He was very talented building with wood and metal. He was always tinkering in his garage.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, of 69 years, sons Kyle (Kathy) of Torrington; Bryan (Lysa) of Las Vegas, Nevada and daughter Maureen Long Scribner of Casper; brother, Ronald (Pat) Long, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold “sonny” (Marylou) and Leonard (Janice).
