TORRINGTON – Janet Lea Couillard, 83, of Torrington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Torrington Community Hospital surrounded by family.
Janet was born April 5, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Jesse Williams and Cecil D. Elwood. She grew up in Fridley, Minnesota where she met and married her high school sweetheart Richard Couillard. They moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where they raised their four children. Janet later moved to Torrington, where she worked at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home as an Administrative Assistant for over 20 years.
Janet loved bowling, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and spending time in other worlds through her love of reading. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Janet left an impact on everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She is survived by her children; Chad Couillard (Diana) of Omaha, Todd Couillard (Denise) of Grand Island, Shannon Buller (Kip) of Torrington and Nathan Couillard (Mary) of Grand Island. Grandchildren; Danna, Savanna, Adam, Allison, Cooper and Max. Great-Grandchildren; Jade, Autumn, Brynlee and Emmie; and numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Kenny, Bobby, and Tommy Williams, Mary Lou Larsen, and her great-grandson Kayne Xavier Schamel.
A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m., June 14, 2025, at the Torrington American Legion. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorials be made to a charity of your choice in Janet’s name.
