TORRINGTON – Glen Bertrand Butler, age 89, died Sunday, December 29, 2024, in his home in Torrington.

Glen was born at home on the family farm outside of Lingle, on May 1, 1935, the sixth of seven surviving sons of the late Hugh A. and Helen M. Randolph. He graduated as salutatorian of his class at Lingle High School of 1953, earning a four-year scholarship.

Glen attended two years at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, continuing to work on the Lingle farm. Then, he followed his older brothers, Ted, Hugh, John, George, and Roy, to the University of Wyoming. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and a minor in education. He also was on the University of Wyoming livestock judging team. Glen returned to Lingle and purchased the family farm where he grew primarily alfalfa and corn. Glen was named Outstanding Farmer of the Year in Goshen County. He was a member of the Wyoming Air National Guard.

Glen met Bonnie Korb in the summer of 1958, and they married in September of that same year. They lived on the family farm, purchased from Glen’s parents, and together they built their home on the sandhill with their own hands. There, they raised their five children, Mike, Diane, Mark, Kaylene, and Roger. After marrying, Glen and Bonnie ran the family farm and managed their residential rental business, where they purchased homes and renovated and rented them out.

Glen and Bonnie were known for being reliable landlords with comfortable homes to rent. Glen and Bonnie moved from the farm into Torrington in 1995, where they remodeled their first home in town, and then later moved across the street to remodel their last home, a lovely historic Victorian house on the corner of Main and East 23rd Avenue. It was here that anyone walking by would be welcome to come and sit on the porch for a wonderful visit.

Glen and Bonnie loved traveling to visit relatives and friends and seeing the many sites in both the United States and abroad. They traveled to all 50 states in the U.S. and to other countries, including Germany, Ireland, and China. Glen grew up in the Lingle Presbyterian Church until moving into Torrington, where he and Bonnie helped restore the Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church and became members and church leaders. He also was a member of the Goshen County School Board for many years.

Glen will be missed by many friends and loved ones: his children: Mike (Amy) Butler of Kemmerer, Wyoming; Diane Butler of Seattle, Washington; Mark (Christine) Butler of Wellington, Colorado; Kaylene (Terry) Detwiler of Bismarck, North Dakota; and Roger (Rebecca) Butler of Tulsa, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren: Angie (Jeremy) Pyle, Brandy (Kenny) Lind, and their mother Jeanne Visca Butler Wickard; Sammi Butler and Dalton Butler; Hazel Williams and Theodora Williams; Cara Butler; Lynsey (Mitch) Estabrook, Joshua (Jana) Detwiler, Rachel (Nick) Hornbacher, Hannah(Chancellor) Myers, Sarah (Evan) Jahner, and Rebekah (Alex) Schenker; Jeremy (Monica) Butler, Malerie (Derek) Olson, and Maddi Butler; twelve great-grandchildren: Brock, Macee, Remi, Bodie, Oakley, Laykin, Everley, Molly, Micah, Eloise (Ellie), Ariyah, and Kai; one brother, Jerry Butler of Florida.

Glen is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie; brothers, Ted, Hugh, John, George, and Roy; and granddaughter, Christina Jo Butler. The family will hold a celebration of life for Glen a later date. A private burial for family will occur in Lingle Hillcrest Cemetery.
