Evelyn “Evie” Marie Cecil

TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Evelyn “Evie” Marie Cecil, 82, will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church with Reverend Bob Thomson officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. 

Evelyn passed away peacefully January 31, 2026, at her home on the farm near Huntley. Memorials can be made to the Jack and Evelyn Cecil Scholarship at Eastern Wyoming College.

Evie was born January 6, 1944, in Wheatland to Mike and Ada Mary (Sandercock) Melonuk. She grew up outside Fort Laramie on the family’s ranch. She went to grade school in Fort Laramie and graduated from Lingle High School in 1962. She attended EWC and received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Wyoming. 

Evie married Jack Cecil June 30, 1968, at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington. To this union three children were born: Wendy, Jennifer, and Jacqueline. She and Jack shared 53 years of love until his passing in 2022. 

Evie was a dedicated teacher for over 40 years; impacting and shaping the lives of every student coming into her classroom. She taught in Cheyenne, Newcastle and Laramie, spending the majority of her career at Torrington High School. She was also an advisor for FHA/FCCLA and received Wyoming Advisor of the year honors. Mrs. Cecil focused her teaching on empowering students to find their creativity and not be afraid to make mistakes, but to learn from them and embrace the discovery. 

Evie was a charter member of the Goshen County Quilt Guild. She made many beautiful quilts. Her specialty was pajamas for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her Bridge Ladies, as well as being a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also an avid reader and gardener, and loved canning. 

Evie loved all kinds of sports, especially her Colorado Rockies! She was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, attending many school and sporting events. Evie was a warrior. She persevered in the face of adversity and never let any of her health issues be an excuse not to show up and get things done. She was a great role model and taught her daughters to be strong women. 

Evie is survived by her daughter Wendy Cecil and her son Tyler Loose; daughter Jennifer (Jory) Kaufman and their children Madison, Haylee, and Brody; daughter Jacqueline (Dan) de Peyer and their children Theodore and Rosalie; brother Robert Melonuk; sister Carol (Craig) Cooper; sisters-in-law Patty Dockins, Joan (Mel) Schreiner, Judy Krug and Connie Cecil; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, and sister-in-law Beth Melonuk.
