VETERAN – Darren Van Youngs (56) of Veteran died May 10, 2025. He was with his wife, Tomi and son, Isaac when he passed. Cremation has taken place and will be followed by a private family memorial service at a later date.

Darren was born December 4, 1968, the son of Kenneth Youngs and Myra Lou (Froehlich) Youngs. He attended Goshen Hole Elementary School and graduated from Southeast Highschool in 1987. Darren received his Welding Certification in 1988 and Associates Degree for Welding in 1989 from Eastern Wyoming College.

Darren worked welding at various powerplants and jobs throughout the Wyoming and Nebraska Region. He worked campaigns for several years at the Sugar Factory in Torrington. In the fall of 2007, Darren became a fulltime welder at the factory until March 2019 after it closed. Darren became a Welding Instructor at EWC in the Fall of 2019 where he enjoyed his students and co-workers. He continued his education and training to become a Certified Welding Educator. His office was often filled with students asking questions and hanging out. He was able to attend EWC graduation on May 9th with his colleagues celebrating the achievement of their students.

Darren was an active member of the Veteran Fire Department for many years. From an early age, Darren loved riding trail motorcycles with friends and created his own jumps and tracks. As an adult he competed in Trials Competitions and was a member of the Wyoming Trials Motorcycle Association. Darren was the Senior State Trials Champion a few times.

Darren married Tomi Teske June 9, 2012, and they were near their 13th anniversary when he died. The couple made their home in Veteran, on the farm where Darren grew up. They happily welcomed their son Isaac Kenneth Youngs on August 31, 2013. Darren’s main priority was Isaac and they were best friends sharing adventures, going on camping and fishing trips, hunting and shooting, working on projects at home and fixing up the old trail bike for Isaac to ride. They both liked trips to the cabin near Medicine Bow National Forrest. Family trips to the Black Hills were great times.

Darren is remembered for his unique sense of humor, sweet tooth, quiet calm demeanor and how he loved time with, and playing jokes on, his family and friends. He liked to put on Holiday Poker Clinics and play Pitch with family.
