A few months ago, I wrote about dinner at Cottonwood Country Club. I closed that column with an offer: I’d rather not play my first round solo, so if a local wanted to tee it up with me, I’d write about the course next. Kate Hutchins of Torrington took me up on it, and the two of us went out as a twosome.
Before the golf, one thing needs clearing up, because it caused confusion after that first column. Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course and Cottonwood Country Club are not the same thing, even with the similar names. The 18-hole course at West 15th Avenue and Golf Course Road is owned and operated by the City of Torrington, and it is open to the public. The country club shares the grounds but is a separate organization with its own membership. Joining the club does not give you the right to play the city course, and buying a city golf pass does not make you a club member.
