SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Bette Louise Mills, a cherished mother, devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, and proud great-great-grandmother as well as a faithful servant of her community and church, passed away peacefully at her home in San Antonio, Texas, on July 30, 2025. She was 89 years old.
Born on October 26, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bette made her life’s impact in the places she called home – most notably in Lingle, where she raised her family and became a cornerstone of the community. She served for many years as the secretary at Lingle-Fort Laramie High School, where she was known for her steady presence and caring nature. Beyond her professional contributions, Bette was a founding member of North Hills Baptist Church and later served as the teaching leader of Bible Study Fellowship in Gilbert, Arizona, for a decade – a role through which she ministered to and inspired countless others.
Bette’s life was grounded in unwavering faith, fierce devotion to her family, and a gentle strength that defined her character. She leaves behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and Christian love that will continue to resonate through generations.
She was married to the love of her life, Robert Mills, for 49 years until his passing in 2006. Their marriage was a testament to faith, partnership and enduring love.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl Thomas and her husband John of Roswell, New Mexico; Beth Gibson and her husband Jerry of San Antonio, Texas; and Rob Mills and his fiancée Jamie of Gilbert, Arizona. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Brent Thomas and his wife Melissa, Melanie Woodard and her husband Caleb, Brodey Gibson and his wife Nikki, and Riley and Alyssa Mills. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Simon and his girlfriend Emily, Luke, and Landon Thomas; Penelope and Charlotte Woodard; and Ryder and Asher Gibson and one great-great-grandchild: Montana Thomas.
Bette’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her enduring faith, her deep love for her family, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life.
Her memory will be held dear, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
