MITCHELL, NEBRASKA – A successful outing by the Lingle-Fort Laramie outdoor track team resulted in nearly two dozen new personal records and a bag filled with hardware at the Mitchell Invitational on Thursday, April 4.

The Doggers garnered sixth place out of 13 teams, tallying 36 points. The Lady Doggers came in eighth place with 26 points.

Junior Brody Roberts snagged gold in the boys’ 400-meters, clocking in with a state-qualifying time of 52.08 seconds. Roberts beat the runner-up, Mitchell’s Desmonde Smith, by 1.77 seconds.

Sophomore Sullivan Wilson garnered first place in the long-distance boys’ 3200-meter run, qualifying for state in his second event and posting a time of 10 minutes, 32.42 seconds. Wilson left the competition in the dust, crossing the finish line more than 43 seconds ahead of Austin Benda, of Hemingford, Nebraska.

Junior Jada Kaufman qualified for state in a second event by snapping up second place in the 300-meter hurdles at 50.76 seconds.

The boys’ 4x100-meter relay team – junior Cooper Smith, sophomore Brady Cook, senior Wyatt Sylvester and junior Louden Bremer – punched their ticket to state with a fourth-place finish and a time of 45.98 seconds.

Sophomore Kiera Fleenor, sophomore Jordynn Speckner, junior Grace Gibson and Kaufman secured a state-qualifying time in the girls’ 4x100-meter relay, clocking in at 54.22 seconds to place sixth.

“The weather at Mitchell was fantastic and our performances reflected that,” coach Mike Lashley said. “We had several season-best performances and nearly 20 PRs. I really like where we are as a team right now. Hopefully our efforts put us in a position for success at regionals and state.”

Girls top eight

In hurdles, Kaufman captured third place in the 100-meter finals, crossing the finish line in 17.30 seconds.

Throwers posted solid performances, led by sophomore Avary Rising at third place in the shot put with a mark of 34 feet, 5 ¾ inches. Freshman Charlotte Speckner came in fifth in the shot put, clearing 33-02 ½.

Senior Izzy Spears snapped up fifth place in the discus with a toss measured at 103-02. Charlotte Speckner took seventh place in the event at 100-02.

Jordynn Speckner pulled into sixth place in the 400-meters, timing in at 1:04.05.

In long-distance events, senior Holly Leiseth placed seventh with a time of 6:15.83.

The 4x400-meter relay team – freshman Addi Wilkins, Fleenor, freshman Madison Hatch and sophomore Kaiten Schilreff – clinched seventh place at 4:42.37.

Boys top eight

Clocking the 300-meter hurdles in at 41.89 seconds, Bremer snagged second place in the event. 

Cook achieved a fifth-place finish in the 110-hurdles, timing in at 17.08 seconds. The sophomore went on to place seventh in discus with a mark of 124-02.

Roberts secured seventh place in the 200-meters, posting a time of 24.65 seconds.

Representing the Doggers in the pole vault, Sylvester picked up seventh place in the event at 10-07.

Cooper Smith rounded out top-eight highlights with an eighth-place finish in the shot put, clearing 40-00.

Cook, Wilson, Cooper Smith and Sylvester garnered fifth place in the 4x400-meter relay, timing in at 3:52.10.

• 200-meters: Jordynn Speckner in ninth place at 28.77 seconds and Schilreff in 22nd at 31.70.

• 400-meters: Haven Torres in 30th place at 1:18.26.

• 100-hurdles: Wilkins in 13th place at 20.28 seconds and Hatch in 16th at 20.97.

• 300-hurdles: Wilkins in ninth place at 53.94 seconds and Hatch in 14th at 55.26.

• Shot put: Alisha McGraw in 19th place at 26-07 ¾.

• Discus: Rising in 11th place at 94-06.

• Long jump: Schilreff in 10th place at 14-01.

• Triple jump: Schilreff in 10th place at 30-03 ½, Leiseth in 14th at 28-03 ¾ and Wilkins in 15th at 27-11.

• 100-meters: Bremer in 12th place at 12.21 seconds and Jay Olson in 32nd at 14.21.

• 200-meters: Cook in 17th place at 26.46 seconds.

• 1600-meters: Tyler Smith in ninth place at 5:36.01.

• 300-hurdles: Rogan Fisher in 19th place at 53.30 seconds.

• Shot put: Colter McFarlin in 14th place at 35-02 and Marcos Martinez in 16th at 34-01 ½.

• Discus: Cooper Smith in 12th place at 106-06 and McFarlin in 17th at 98-08.
