Lady Blazers drop game to Rawlins

Posted

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers squared off against conference rival Rawlins for their second home game of the season with Torrington ultimately falling to the Lady Outlaws, 11-0.

Rawlins controlled the scoreboard in the first half to establish a 6-0 lead. A determined Lady Blazer defense significantly slowed the Rawlins offense in the second half.

Regardless of the tally on the scoreboard, the Lady Blazers battled down to the final moments of the game, picking themselves up after a hard blow dealt by Rawlins to play again.

“The game against Rawlins did not go the way I was expecting,” coach Tyler Cram said. “We did well with testing their defense on a few of the break-aways by our forwards. In the second half, our defense was able to hold off the attacks better.”

The Lady Blazers plan to take the lessons learned from Rawlins and apply them in upcoming games against Worland and Buffalo, Cram added.

“Overall, I am still happy with these tough games because it is giving the girls a ton of experience and opportunities to learn and adapt,” Cram remarked. “Our defense needs to work on being more aggressive and our offense needs to work on finishing. My goal for the team is to mitigate goals against us and work on getting the ball quicker to our forwards.”

While Torrington came up short on the scoreboard in the first half, the Torrington defense made dents in the Lady Outlaws’ offense. Sophomore goalie Brooklynn McCoy tallied six saves before halftime.

In the backfield and midfield, powerful kicks by sophomores Allie Martinez, Salma Beltran and Kennedi Blevins and junior Marisol Munoz cleared the ball from Torrington territory.

On offense, junior Maggie Jacobson attacked the Lady Outlaws’ defense to make a shot on goal.

During the second half, sophomore Kristin Prado played goalie and posted five saves. Torrington’s backfield and midfield stepped up the pressure, slowing the Lady Outlaws’ offense to four goals.

Offensively, Munoz broke through Rawlins’ midfield to make a shot on goal.
