POCATELLO, IDAHO – More than 2,000 of the best indoor tracksters from 20 U.S. states, along with athletes from Canada, New Zealand and Australia, gathered at the 44th Annual Simplot Games hosted by Idaho State University in Pocatello on Feb. 15-17.

Runners, jumpers and throwers from Goshen County on the Torrington High School indoor team posted exceptional performances at Simplot, with eight athletes qualifying for the finals at the internationally renowned event.

“It is an honor to go to the Simplot Games and compete,” head coach Russell Stienmetz said. “We took nine individuals to the meet and those athletes showed up and competed as best they could. The competition was excellent for our kids. Excited for these last two weeks before the state championships.”

Senior Harper Boche captured fourth place in the finals for the girls’ shot put, snagging a spot on the podium at the 2024 Simplot Games. Boche hit a mark of 39 feet, 9 ½ inches, setting a new seasonal personal record.

Sophomore Brooklyn Asmus punched her ticket to the finals in the girls’ 200-meter dash, breaking into the top 10 with an eighth-place finish timed in at 25.74 seconds. Asmus’ time set a new Torrington High School indoor track record and was a new personal record for the sophomore.

In throwing events, senior Tyler Bennick garnered ninth place in the boys’ shot put finals with a toss measured at 51-09.

Seniors Trey Parriott and Brayden Frazier also made the finals in the shot put, with Parriott placing 19th at 46-04 ¾. Frazier came in 22nd place in the finals at 44-08.

The girls’ 4x200-meter relay team snagged 11th place in the finals. Asmus, sophomore Natalie Hawes, senior Alyssa Wondercheck and sophomore Trishell Pontarolo posted a new personal record of 1:49.01 in the event.

The team set a new PR in addition to breaking the Torrington High School indoor track record in the 4x200-meter relay, a record they set a week ago.
