TORRINGTON – No services are planned for Virginia Ann Green, 91, who died at Goshen Healthcare Community on September 8, 2023. Memorials may be given to Eastern Wyoming College Veterinary Program for the Jeannine Joyce Hill Fund or the donor’s choice. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation arrangements. Virginia was born February 28, 1932 on the family farm south of Red Elm, South Dakota to Orville and Anna (Flegel) Minnig. Her father was a homesteader who settled a parcel of land after serving honorably in France in World War I. Virginia was the youngest of three children. The family lived on the farm until 1938 when they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be near relatives. She spent the next thirty-six years in Lincoln. She attended Elliott and Randolph grade schools, Irving Jr. High and graduated from Lincoln High School in the June class of 1949. During her growing-up years she attended and was very active in Elm Park Methodist Church. She married Richard G. Green in this church and their two daughters were baptized there. The family later moved to another part of Lincoln and they were active in that community and Epworth Methodist Church. During her years after high school graduation, she worked at Dunn and Bradstreet, Security Mutual, Miller and Paine and many years at First National Bank. In October of 1974 they moved to Beatrice, Nebraska due to his job transfer. While in Beatrice she was active in her church. She worked at Martin Luther Homes for over thirteen years. When her husband retired, they moved to Torrington. They made many friends and started traveling again with several trips to western Wyoming and surrounding states. Richard died in 2010 and she continued living in Torrington.
Throughout the years Virginia belonged to PTA’s, churches, VFW Auxiliary, Stonecraft Women’s Christian Group and other women’s groups, Business and Professional Clubs, hospital auxiliaries, including many years at the hospital Gift Shop in Torrington, and many other volunteer opportunities.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Kathleen Gardner of Texas; sister-in-law Connie Burger of Colorado; brother-in-law Ralph Green of Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; daughter Jeannine Joyce Hill; brother Gordon Minnig; sister Beulah McKenney; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; four nephews; and one niece.
