FORT LARAMIE – A wonderful, faith-filled, woman of God went home to her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2023. Theda Joanne Knighten, née Slawter, 69, of Fort Laramie, was born in Fort Carson, Colorado to Harold T. and Lillis M. Slawter on April 18, 1954.

Theda’s lasting legacy was her positive attitude throughout her many trials; reflecting an amazing faith and trust in The Lord. Theda steadfastly believed she was chosen by God, in spite of her shortcomings. Never wavering, even as cancer ravaged her body, Theda continually and enthusiastically exalted The Lord. Near the end she enjoyed gathering people to watch The Chosen; a televised production demonstrating the flaws and faith of Christ’s 12 Disciples. Theda was, indeed, both special and one of The Chosen; reflecting a deep Christian faith.

Theda’s family and friends enjoyed her wonderful sense of humor, witnessed her love of life, and were blessed by seeing how God drew people to her. She is sorely missed.

Theda lived in Anchorage, Alaska; Seward, Alaska; Washington D.C.; Lebanon, Oregon; and Fort Laramie, Wyoming. She touched the lives of many through her love and devotion of Christ, and a caring heart for others. In the spring of 1977, she met Kimo Knighten. Married in April 1978, they remained together until the Lord called Kimo home in September 2021.

Theda was preceded in death by her late husband Kimo, brother Terry, and her parents. She is survived by her brother Ted and his wife of Maricopa, Arizona; sister Tracey and her husband of Oro Valley, Arizona; many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and very special friends.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held Saturday, Sept 23, 11 a.m. at the Fort Laramie County Church.
