Sally Marie Green

TORRINGTON – Sally Marie Green was born on September 6, 1938, to Leon and Mabel Green of Hayden, Colorado. Sally was born prematurely and weighed less than 4 pounds at birth. The family story is that she wasn’t expected to survive but a nurse on duty at the Solandt Hospital warmed and tended the tiny newborn until she was sent home to the family ranch south of Hayden with her parents. She was joined by brother Jerry three years later. Sally had fond memories of growing up on the ranch on the Williams Fork, and horseback riding brought her joy throughout her life. Her favorite horse was a mare named Slippers. She attended country schools throughout her childhood through eighth grade, riding double (then triple) with her mom and brother several miles morning and night when the roads were too muddy for the car. She graduated from Hayden Union High in 1956. She attended Colorado State A&M for two years, before returning to the Yampa Valley where she entered the workforce as a secretary. At her workplace, her employer introduced Sally to his son, Lee, and after a brief courtship and engagement, Sally married Lee Williamson on August 7, 1959. To this marriage, three children were born—Jim, Tom, and Lisa. Sally and Lee weathered joys and sorrows over their sixty-four year union, but their marriage was never boring. They owned multiple ranches and even more houses, living in Steamboat Springs; Meeker; Ritzville, Washington; Hayden; Craig; and Torrington, Wyoming. Sally worked for many years as an administrative assistant for various agencies, but in 1991 she decided to pursue a career as a real estate agent. She achieved her goal and was a successful realtor in Craig until she retired in 2006. Sally loved the simple things in life—planting and tending flowers, and keeping her house clean. But she was also a super fan of the Denver Broncos, Nuggets, and Rockies, watching games with her team t-shirts on, often dozing off mid-game only to wake to see the final plays. She especially loved John Elway and Allen Iverson, and Sally tolerated her familys teasing over her fandom.Sally’s final years in Wyoming with Lee were spent on a hobby ranch, where they were surrounded by grass and alfalfa fields and wide open skies with horses, cattle, sheep, chickens, cats, and dogs. Alas, as their age and health deteriorated in their last year together, Sally and Lee were well tended at the Goshen Care Center, where Sally finally allowed others to do housework for her, and where she enjoyed the cooking of others, especially desserts! Sally is survived by her husband Lee, her sister-in-law Judy Green, her children Jim Williamson (Debbie), Tom Williamson (Dave Roberts), and Lisa Smith (Steve); grandchildren Martin Williamson (Jill), Michelle Koons, Mitchell Williamson (Rebekah), Jacob Chae, Adele Roberts-White (Andrew Hynes), Daniel Smith, Christopher Smith (Maddie), and Cameron Smith (Kaitlyn Lee), eleven great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother, her grandson Matthew Williamson, her in-laws, Tom and Anna Williamson, and sisters-in-law Donna Mains (Jim) and Doris Spaulding (Allen). There will be a private family memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Torrington Meals-on-Wheels in her name would be appreciated.
