COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Joyce Elaine Brewer, originally from Torrington, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023 at her apartment in Colorado Springs. 

Joyce was born on January 10, 1950 to Peter and Ida Brewer. She married her soul mate Dan Curry in December, 1969 in the United Methodist Church in Torrington. They later divorced in 1990. 

Joyce had a wide range of interests including work, music as a gifted vocalist, sports, politics, national pride and supporter of the military, avid horsewoman, but especially focused on her children and grandchildren. Joyce was also a follower of Jesus and grew in that relationship in the latter stages of her life. 

Shortly after their marriage, Joyce and Dan moved to Mt Pleasant, MI. There they brought two children into their family, Dawn Danielle in 1971 and Scott Robert in 1973. Joyce had five grandchildren. Three from Dawn (Shannah, Niklas and Josh) and two from Scott (Samantha and Joe). She also had four great-grandchildren (Mason, Millie, Milton and Maggie). 

Outside the home, Joyce worked as a secretary at Eastern Wyoming College, where she met Dan. Later they moved to Santa Maria, California where Joyce got a degree in computer programming and started working for Den-Mat as a computer programmer from 1980-1990. Then in 1991, she worked as an administrator with Nurseryman’s Exchange out of Half-moon Bay, CA. Later she moved back to Torrington, to care for her ailing father in 1998. While riding her horse during that time, she was injured and was unable to work again. After her father’s death, she moved to Colorado Springs, where she remained until her death. 

Joyce is survived by her children Dawn Wisbom (Mike) of Copenhagen, Denmark; Scott (Brenda) Curry of Sparta, TN; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Roy (Nancy) Brewer; and sister Dena Brewer. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Peter (Heather) Brewer. Per Joyce’s request there will be no funeral.
