BUFFALO – Funeral services for Jan Serres, 84-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away January 5 at the Johnson County Health Care Center, will be held Saturday, January 13 at 10 a.m. at the Summit Wesleyan Church in Buffalo with Pastor William Dunlap officiating. 

Visitation will be held at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel on Friday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with a private family graveside service to immediately follow the funeral. 

A reception and time of sharing will be at Summit Wesleyan Church following the funeral. Donations in Jan’s memory may be made to the Bread of Life Food Pantry at 178 S. Janis Kae Serres was born on October 5, 1939 in Sacramento, California to Herman and Georgia Rife. She moved to Torrington as a young child where she grew up and went to school graduating from Torrington High School with the class of 1957. After high school she worked for Dr. Keenan who was also her family Dr. for several years. She was married on September 15, 1962 in Torrington to Kenneth Serres and they made their home on the family ranch in Nebraska. 

Jan was a homemaker and moved with her family to Worland and later to Gillette where her husband Ken opened the PCA Office. In 1970 they moved to Buffalo where Jan worked and was co-owner of the Posy Patch. In 1986 she began working at the 1st National Bank and retired there in 2002. Her husband Ken passed away in May of 1990 and Jan continued living in Buffalo until her death.

Jan was an accomplished seamstress, from jean patches to making wedding dresses. She was known throughout the community for this ability. She made many quilts and loved sharing her sewing talents with her grandkids. She loved growing her garden, canning and cooking but her passion was spending time with her family, and watching their sporting activities. 

She is survived by three sons, Bart Serres and his wife Jacquie, Boyd Serres all of Big Horn, and Bryan Serres and his wife Karen of Buffalo; one daughter Lisa Litzel and her husband Rick also of Buffalo; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Ramon “Buzz” and Jack Rife and one daughter-in-law Tracy Serres.
