TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Jacob Benjamin “Ben” Zulauf, 99, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Torrington United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Wayland officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Torrington United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home and the casket will be open at the church prior to the service.

Ben was born June 11, 1924 in Isabell, South Dakota. He was the son of Jacob Benjamin Zulauf and Katherine Magdaline Sept Zulauf Goltz. Ben’s family moved to Torrington in 1931. He grew up and attended school in Torrington. After working on farms in the Lingle area, he served in the US Army during WWll in France and Germany.
After the service, Jacob met his wife Eldora (Dora) Harper in Denver, Colorado. They were married on June 9, 1946 in Denver.
The couple lived in Georgetown, Colorado and moved to Torrington early in 1947. Ben continued to work on the Moine farm and worked during campaign at Holly Sugar factory. He then worked with the Wyoming Department of Transportation Maintenance Department until his retirement after working thirty-two years with the maintenance department. Ben also spent many years as an auctioneer in Torrington and Gering, Nebraska.
Ben was a member of the Torrington United Methodist Church where he served on the trustee board and the finance committee. He also served on the building committee of the new church back then which is now the current Torrington United Methodist Church.
Ben loved bowling and bowled every Tuesday night with his league. He loved working alongside his wife, Dora, in their garden. Ben was famous for growing sweet corn as well as other vegetables. He also repaired many lawn mowers through the years.
Ben loved his family. He loved spending time with their sons teaching them his gardening skills as well as maintaining their cars and lawn mowers. He also loved spending time with their grandchildren and great granddaughters. Ben and Dora attended many events that Becky and John were involved in.
Ben is survived by his sons Jim (Jane) Zulauf of Torrington, Marvin (Kanako) Zulauf of Lacey, Washington, and Dan Zulauf of Torrington; granddaughters Becky Zulauf of Torrington, Monica (Troy) Hendersen of Washington; and grandson John (Marissa) Zulauf of Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany; great granddaughters Autumn (Jody) Luckey of Torrington and Emmarie Zulauf of Germany; and many nieces and nephews, especially Mardel Zulauf of Missouri.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-six years, Dora; his parents, stepfather Christian Goltz; sisters Katie Zulauf, Lillian Zulauf Samsel, Pauline Zulauf Quinn, and half-sisters Lorraine Goltz Clutter, Ramona Goltz Maier, and Betty Goltz Moore; and brothers Fred Zulauf, and Edwin Zulauf.
