TORRINGTON – A Celebration of Life for Dennis Lee Mueller, 81, will be held Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall in Torrington. Dennis died May 12, 2022, at Cheyenne Regional Hospital in Cheyenne. He was buried in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington with military honors. Dennis was born June 3, 1940, in Sidney, Nebraska the son of Gottfried William and Ella Catherine Mueller. He had three brothers Delbert, Dale and Don and six sisters Maxine, Marilyn, Marline, Marge, Millie and Marcie. At the age of eighteen he joined the army where he took training in Colorado, Missouri and Arkansas. After basic training he was shipped to Korea. When he was discharged he married and from this union Mike and Dale were born and later Jennifer from another marriage. Dennis worked as a carpenter and later joined a carpenter’s union in Denver, Colorado. He read about jobs building the new Torrington Hospital and Holly Sugar silos  so he drove to Torrington and worked on those jobs until they were finished. He joined the Wyoming Army National Guard in Torrington and went each month to Guernsey for guard duties and retired as a staff sargent. While working at the National Guard he also worked at Old Fort Laramie as a maintenance man and helped out during other events.

Dennis was a member of the Yoder Fire Department, an active member of the American Legion and VFW where he served as commander and chaplain for both and also as Commander of the Veteran Legion Post for a time.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, his brother Dale and three sisters Marline, Millie and Margie. He is survived by his son Mike and daughter Jennifer, and his best friend of twenty years Kay Simonsen.
