Black Hills Energy warns customers of reported phone scam attempts

Posted

CHEYENNE – Black Hills Energy has received reports from customers of attempted scam calls where the customer is told their bill is delinquent and their service will be turned off if they don’t pay immediately over the phone or call an 800 number and provide payment. If you receive a call requesting immediate payment, do not call the requested number back, and do not make a payment. Customers can verify their billing status by logging into their account at blackhillsenergy.com or by calling customer service at 888-890-5554.

Additional tips:

Don’t give in to a high-pressure call seeking personal information – if someone calls claiming to represent your local utility and they demand immediate payment or personal information, hang up and call the customer service number on your utility bill or verify your billing status by logging into your account online.

Do not provide your Social Security number, credit card numbers or bank account information to anyone during an unsolicited phone call or an unannounced visit.

Black Hills Energy does not request payments with gift cards or wire transfers.
