SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Track athletes from Torrington, Southeast and Lingle-Fort Laramie shined at the annual Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff on Tuesday evening.
Torrington
Torrington senior Brendan Flock and freshman Brooklyn Asmus led the Blazers with two wins each.
Flock won the 100-meter dash in 10.81 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.03 seconds.
Meanwhile, Asmus swept the 100 and 200 in the girls’ division. Asmus won the 100 in 12.57 seconds and the 200 in 26.22 seconds.
In all, Torrington picked up seven wins.
Aydan Loya won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 35.55 seconds, and the Blazers swept the top spot in the throwing events. Tyler Bennick threw a personal best 52 feet, 2 inches to win shot put, while Ryan Baker’s throw of 150-1 won discus.
Loya also finished second in the 800-meter run, while Zab Munoz was third in the 3,200. Trey Parriott placed fourth in shot put.
In the girls’ division, the 4x400-meter relay team of Asmus, Alyssa Wondercheck, Trishell Pontarolo and Marissa Moorehouse set a new school record in 4:08.19. They finished second in the race.
Moorehouse also had three runner-up finishes in the 400-meter dash, triple jump and long jump. In the 100-meter hurdles, Natalie Hawes finished third, while the 4x100 relay team of Hawes, Julie Le Nezet, Pontarolo and Wondercheck placed second.
Southeast
The Southeast Cyclones were led by Harper Boche who picked up the team’s only win of the evening.
Boche won shot put with a throw of 39-1.75, beating out teammate Shelby Ekwall who placed second at 38-11.5.
Kaycee Kosmicki crossed the line second in the 800-meter run in 2:29.01, while Tylar Stoddard was fourth in triple jump. The 4x400 relay team of Stoddard, Kosmicki, Sasha Haines and Macy Tremain was sixth, while Hadley Leithead, Ekwall and Boche were seventh, eighth and 10th, respectively, in discus. In pole vault, Angie Logsdon was sixth, clearing 8-6.
In the boys’ division, Wyatt Campbell was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.27 seconds, while Austin Short was fifth. Campbell was sixth in the 200-meter dash, while Short was seventh in the 400-meter dash. Dawson Mullock was sixth in high jump at 5-9, while the 4x100 relay team of Campbell, Short, Wyatt Gladson and Matthew Chapman was seventh.
Lingle-Fort Laramie
The Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers scored one win for the evening.
The win came courtesy of Sully Wilson in the 3,200-meter run. His time of 10:21.47 won the event by a full six seconds.
The 4x800 relay team of Brody Roberts, Braydon Posten, Nolan Spears and Myles Wilson was second in 8:27.95. Meanwhile, the 4x400 team of Spears, Roberts, Posten and Bremer placed eighth. Wilson also placed 11th in the 1,600-meter run.
In hurdles, Louden Bremer was fourth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 110 hurdles.
In field events, Boyd Oliver was fourth in discus with a throw of 144 feet. Oliver was 11th in shot put.
In the girls’ division, the 4x800 relay team of Hadley Wilkins, Holly Leiseth, Jordynn Speckner and Natalie Speckner finished third in 10:44.35. Emma Walker was fourth in 300 hurdles, while Izzy Spears was fifth in the discus. Walker also placed seventh in the 100 hurdles, finishing one spot ahead of teammate Jada Kaufman. The 4x400 team of Walker, Kaufman, Wilkins and Maddy Saul was seventh, while the 4x100 team of Wunder, Jordynn Speckner, Wilkins and Saul was eighth.
In field events, Avary Rising was 10th in shot put, awhile Skyler Wunder was 12th in long jump.

The LFL and Southeast track teams head to the SEWAC meet on Saturday, May 6 in Burns, while Torrington hosts the Wiseman Invite on Friday, May 5.
