LAMAR, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team kicked off the spring season with a two-day tournament in Lamar.

The second day of the tournament was called after nine holes because of rain. The Lancers finished in second place with a score of 449. McCook Community College won the tournament with a score of 436.

“McCook played very well at our first tournament of the season, and our guys didn’t play as well as they had hoped,” EWC coach Zach Smith said. “Harry (Walch), George (Elliott), and Gonzalo (Arcelay) were all able to place in the top ten to keep earning points toward regional honors.

“It looks like we might have some of the same weather challenges this week in McCook, so we need to be ready for whatever is thrown our way.”

Leading the Lancers was sophomore Harry Walch, a Staines, England native, who tied for third with scores of 71 and 38 for a total           of 109.

The Lancers will play the McCook Community College tournament March 28-29.
