Five Cyclones medal at Carbon County Invite

SARATOGA – The Southeast High School wrestling team had five medalists at the Carbon County Invite hosted by Saratoga High School over the weekend.

Heavyweight Will Baker led the way with a second-place finish.

After a first round bye, he picked up pins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to advance to the championship.

In the title match, Baker was pinned by Asencion Pelham of Big Piney.

The Cyclones had a trio of grapplers finish third.

In the 106-pound weight class, Kaden Brothwell reached the semifinal round before dropping his only match of the weekend.

After the loss, he rebounded to defeat Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Joel Costello and Pinedale’s Colton Gehlhausen by fall to claim third.

At 113 pounds, Brock Blevins also reached the third-place match, defeating Mica Herrera of Moorcroft by a 15-6 major decision.

In the 132-pound bracket, Greg Logsdon rebounded from a second-round loss to rattle off four straight victories to claim third.

In the final bout of the weekend, he scored a 10-8 overtime win over Logan Branigan of Burns.

At 170 pounds, Tate Carson was the fourth Cyclone to reach the third-place match but was pinned by Big Piney’s Justin Seeman in the match.

Ryan Clapper was the only other Cyclone to pick up a win over the weekend, going 2-2 in the 126-pound bracket.

Southeast finished seventh as a team with 105.5 points. Moorcroft won the tournament with 208 points, edging Pinedale with 203. Kemmerer was third with 182.5.

The Cyclones head to the Class 2A East Regional Wrestling Championships in Wright on Saturday, Feb. 16. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
