LAJUNTA, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team finished second at the Otero Community College tournament held March 29-30 in La Junta, Colorado.

Eastern Wyoming College had three golfers – Oscar Behle, Leander Suttka and Noah Taylor – place in the top 10, with Behle finishing in a tie for third place overall.

EWC’s Behle finished in third place even par and in a tie with McCook Community College’s Brayden Dahl.

The two finished one stroke behind Northeastern’s Jackson Rottschafer. McCook Community College’s Ethan Gough won the tournament five-under par.

“It was great to see Oscar put together two good rounds to finish tied for third place, he’s been working hard all year,” EWC golf coach Zach Smith said.

As a team, the Lancers finished the tournament in second place behind McCook Community College. Northeastern Junior College finished in third place, followed by Central Wyoming College, Otero College, and Lamar Community College. The Lancers finished with a score of 13-over-par, McCook Community College was 3-over-par.

“The guys played pretty well for the most part,” Smith said. “We were tied with McCook going into day two, but we weren’t able to go as low as we needed to get the win. Although we fell short, I’m confident in some substantial growth I’ve seen in the freshmen this spring.”

EWC’s Suttka finished in sixth place with a 3-over-par and Taylor finished in a for seventh place with two other golfers with a score of 4-over-par. Lancer Ryker Dunkley finished in a tie for 11th place with a score of 7-over-par. Other members of the Lancer team competing included George Cordall, and Andrew Stannard.

The Lancers head to McCook, Nebraska for a tournament Thursday and Friday.

“We are looking forward to competing next week in McCook,” Smith said.
