TORRINGTON – Mailboxes across Goshen County will see a little less mail on Tuesdays as a popular weekly publication, the Torrington Weekly Shopper, has been discontinued.
“For more than 30 years, we provided the Torrington Weekly Shopper free of charge to all residents of Goshen County. Based on responses from many of our readers prior to now, we know a large number of you enjoyed our publication and looked forward to its arrival each Tuesday,” publisher Rob Mortimore explained.
Mortimore noted, the publication’s current product model was unsustainable and with increased costs, the beloved “Shopper” publication could not support itself.
“We are deeply saddened to have to discontinue publication of the ‘Shopper,’” Mortimore said.
News Media Corporation also publishes a bi-weekly newspaper, the Torrington Telegram.
“Some of you read our paper for local news, public meetings, social events and church happenings, while others enjoy our articles and views on area current events. A great number of you relied on us for grocery ads, real estate, financial and health information, as well as display and insert advertising from many businesses around the area. Our classified ad section in the Weekly Shopper was a popular source of valuable information for many,” Mortimore said. “Rest assured; we will continue to bring you all of those things in our bi-weekly product.”
According to Mortimore, regardless of if readers are looking for area sports coverage from high school athletics, news about local senior citizens, and church happenings, the staff at the Telegram will continue to make Goshen County news a priority for readers.
“We want to thank our loyal subscribers for their continued trust in us and if you’d like to become a subscriber, you’ll find a sweetheart of a deal in this publication,” Mortimore said. “Just give us a call and we’ll make sure you get your news delivered directly to your mailbox every Wednesday and Friday.”
