Too cute to be scary

TORRINGTON – Many little ghouls and boys stormed the Goshen County Courthouse looking for some sweet treats on Halloween.

The young kids, ranging from newborns up, showed off their adorable little costumes at the Goshen County Library’s annual “Storytime Trick or Treat” adventure. From the library, the kids walked to the courthouse and stopped at each office.

“We love our other county employees,” Goshen County Library Director Cristine Braddy told the Telegram. “They are so sweet to do this. To have the courthouse sponsorship something like this, [it really shows us all as] one big happy Goshen County family.”

The county employees were excited to see the tiny trick-or-treaters. Braddy said each year they are contacted by the courthouse to ensure the tradition continues. This event has been going on for at least 10 years.

“[The kids] are so adorable and it’s a fun event,” Braddy said. “It kind of goes along with our summer programming of trying to get the police department here and people like that so the kids can see them as human and not scary. It’s also good for the parents to see them as just human people that love to love our kids.”

“This was a pretty good turnout,” Anita Sanchez, the children’s librarian, said. “They really are so cute. They’re not sure of themselves and are dressed in costumes. It’s just fun; this is probably one of the funnest things.”

With around 15 children, Sanchez said this was one of the best turnouts for a while.

Coming up at the library, there are the usual weekly kids’ programs, but there will also be a few adult programs.

On Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. there will be a basic tech 101 class. Just bring your laptop, phone, iPad or Kindle.

On Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. there will be an angora spinning and knitting class taught by Kendra Sinner.

The “Literary Cocktails” event will be held on Dec. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be music, cocktails and appetizers. Tickets are available at the library for $40.
