TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers ‘C’ Legion team improved its record to 11-1 for the 2025 summer season with back-to-back victories against the Douglas Cats in a home double-header on Tuesday, June 11.
The Tigers’ fielders shut out Douglas over the course of five innings in the first game, including two double plays, while Torrington’s batters scored 14 runs to clinch a 14-0 blowout victory.
The Tigers overwhelmed Douglas in the second game, 19-2.
Game 1
The Tigers opened with an 8-0 run in the first inning. Solid fielding by Torrington in the top of the first prevent Douglas from finding any traction offensively.
Easton Desmond caught a fly ball in right field. Douglas grounded out to Brody Shields at shortstop for the second out. Shields sent the ball to Chase Moeller at first to complete the double play.
Barrett Bruch opened scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a double for one RBI. Bruch went on to score on an error.
Shields reached home on a wild pitch and Ebin Hunter scored on an error.
Marek Nunnes doubled for one RBI before running home on an error. Asher Mattis hit a single for one RBI and then scored on a passed ball.
Torrington widened its lead, 9-0, with a single run in the bottom of the third. Bruch hit a sacrifice fly to send Desmond home.
Five additional runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth placed Torrington up, 14-0.
Bruch paced the Torrington offense in the fourth inning with a single for three RBI. Shields scored on a wild pitch and Nunnes reached home on a passed ball.
The Tigers clinched the blowout win by preventing Douglas from scoring in the top of the fifth. The Cats sent a grounder to Owen Curry at shortstop for the first out. Shields fielded a grounder at third base before sending the ball to Bruch at second. Bruch tossed the ball to Moeller at first base to complete a double play.
The Tigers tallied six hits against Douglas. Bruch led the Torrington offense with two hits for five RBI. Nunnes contributed two hits with one by Mattis and Hunter.
Curry opened as pitcher, striking out three while Hunter played relief.
Game 2
The Tigers outscored Douglas, 11-2, in the first inning before Torrington’s fielders closed ranks to shut out the Cats in the second, third and fourth innings.
Torrington scored one run in the bottom of the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.
Solid fielding by the Tigers in the top of the fifth inning sealed the win. Moeller stepped in as relief pitcher and fielded two grounders and a line drive.
Torrington posted eight hits against the Cats in the second game. Shields recorded three hits for three RBI while Hunter collected two hits and three RBI. Mattis, Nunnes and Desmond rounded out the statistics with one hit each.
Shields pitched the first four innings for the Tigers, striking out five.
