TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers ‘A’ Legion baseball team stepped up to the plate and swept the competition at the 2025 Bullock Memorial Tournament it hosted from June 6-7.
Torrington snagged the tournament championship with an undefeated 4-0 record. The Rocky Mountain Lobos (from Fort Collins, Colorado) and the Alliance Spartans both came in second with 2-2 records.
The Tigers opened the tournament with a game against the Spartans on Friday morning. A 10-0 run by Torrington in the first inning clinched a 15-0 blowout victory for the Tigers.
On Friday evening, Torrington squared off against the Riverton Raiders in a game that came down to the wire. The Tigers led, 9-2, at the bottom of the fourth inning. Riverton rallied with seven runs in the top of the fifth for a 9-9 tie.
The Tigers and Raiders battled through three tie-breaker innings. A single by Mac Hibben drove Grady Shields home in the bottom of the ninth inning for Torrington to post a hard-fought 10-9 win against Riverton.
The Tigers went on to crush Buffalo, 15-0, on Saturday morning before rounding out the tournament with another blowout victory against Rocky Mountain, 10-0.
“As a whole all four games were very well played by the boys,” coach Lane Greiman said. “The (Tigers’) pitching staff performed lights out for us all weekend. The sticks came around for us this weekend as well as we put up 50 runs in four games. The boys played hard all weekend and executed well during the four games when they needed too.”
Coach Greiman gave a shoutout to the tournament volunteers:
“A huge thank you to everyone who helped with getting this tournament set up with weather conditions as well as helping with concessions and field work too. Thank you to the community for coming out to support us as well as the sponsors who help us out throughout the season.”
Game 1 – Alliance
A scrappy defense by Torrington’s fielders shut out Alliance in the top of the first inning.
The Spartans grounded out to Harrison Rodriguez at first base. Conner Correll fielded a pop fly at third base before Alliance sent a grounder to Ryan Moorehouse at second. Moorehouse tossed the ball to Rodriguez at first for the third out.
The Tigers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Drew Kramer doubled for two RBI while Rodriguez singled to send two runners home. Moorehouse and Landre Greiman both doubled for one RBI apiece. Greiman also hit a single for one RBI. Ty Albaugh and Correll each singled for one RBI while James Stienmetz drew a walk to send Grady Shields home.
Five additional runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the second inning widened Torrington’s lead. Rodriguez hit a double for two RBI. Barrett Bruch hit a single for two RBI and Asher Mattis singled for one RBI.
The Tigers prevented Alliance from scoring in the top of the third inning to seal the win. Alliance lined out to Garrett Hager at third before sending a grounder out to Rodriguez at first. Rodriguez also fielded a fly ball at first.
Torrington collected 12 hits against Alliance, led by Greiman with three for two RBI. Albaugh and Rodriguez both tallied two hits with Kramer, Mattis, Moorehouse, Bruch and Correll posting one.
Caleb Kelly pitched all three innings for the Tigers, striking out one.
Game 2 – Riverton
The Tigers won the first inning, 5-1. In the bottom of the first, Hibben doubled for one RBI and Kelly singled for two RBI. Hibben reached home on a passed ball while Kramer drew a walk, allowing Stienmetz to score.
Torrington added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning with Kramer singling for two RBI.
Two additional runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth placed Torrington up, 9-2. Stienmetz hit a grounder, sending Hibben home. A walk by Hager advanced Moorehouse to home plate.
Riverton responded with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning while shutting out Torrington in the bottom and the game reached a 9-9 deadlock.
The stalemate continued into the tiebreaker sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Leftie pitcher Hibben stepped up to strike out two Alliance runners in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. Hager fielded a foul pop fly at third base in the top of the eighth while Greiman at catcher tagged out a Spartan attempting to steal home.
A single by Hibben in the bottom of the ninth inning sent Grady Shields home and broke the tie.
Torrington picked up seven hits against Riverton. Hibben paced the Tigers offense with two hits for two RBI. Kramer posted one hit and three RBI. Greiman made two hits with one by Kelly and Moorehouse.
Moorehouse opened as pitcher for Torrington, striking out five. Correll played relief for a portion of the fifth inning, striking out one. Hibben stepped up to the mound for the tie-breaker innings, striking out five.
Game 3 – Buffalo
The Tigers opened with a 4-0 run in the first inning. Kramer scored the first run for Torrington in the bottom of the first, reaching home on an error. Albaugh singled for one RBI. Stienmetz drew a walk to send Hibben home while Moorehouse scored a run on a wild pitch.
Torrington increased its lead with five additional runs in the bottom of the second. Moorehouse doubled for one RBI and a single by Hibben sent one runner home. A sacrifice grounder by Stienmetz allowed Hibben to score. Kelly walked to send Moorehouse home and Bruch scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers won the third inning, 3-0. Grady Shields singled for one RBI and Hibben hit a triple for one RBI. A sacrifice grounder from Moorehouse advanced Hibben to home plate.
Torrington recorded three additional runs in the bottom of the fourth. Bruch stole home and Brody Shields scored on a wild pitch. Stienmetz singled for one RBI.
The Tigers collected 10 hits against Buffalo with Hibben tallying three for two RBI. Grady Shields and Albaugh each totaled two hits with one apiece by Brody Shields, Stienmetz and Moorehouse.
Albaugh pitched four innings for Torrington, striking out four.
Game 4 – Rocky Mountain
The Tigers lay the foundation for victory in the bottom of the second inning with four runs. Greiman doubled for two RBI and Hager sacrificed a grounder for Stienmetz to reach home. Moorehouse scored on a wild pitch.
Torrington outmaneuvered Rocky Mountain, 2-0, in the third inning. Stienmetz hit a sacrifice grounder and Moorehouse scored on a wild pitch.
Kramer reached home on another wild pitch to score Torrington’s single run in the bottom of the fourth.
Three more runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth inning clinched the win for Torrington. Hibben and Moorehouse each doubled for one RBI apiece while Stienmetz singled to send one home.
Torrington recorded nine hits against Rocky Mountain, led by Greiman with three hits for two RBI. Hibben totaled two hits with Kramer, Moorehouse, Albaugh and Stienmetz each posting one.
Hibben played an exceptional game as pitcher for the Tigers through six innings, leading the Torrington fielders in shutting out the Rocky Mountain offense. Hibben tallied an impressive 15 strike outs throughout the game, surrendering zero hits and zero runs.
