CHEYENNE – The Torrington Tigers ‘A’ Legion baseball team traveled to compete in the Cheyenne Triangular on Saturday, May 31, picking up a victory over conference rival Wheatland in the first game at the event.
A 6-0 run by the Tigers in the fifth inning on Saturday morning lay the foundation for Torrington’s 10-2 routing of the Lobos.
The Tigers went on to play the Cheyenne Post No. 6 Hawks that afternoon with Torrington coming up short, 6-1.
“The weekend was a good set of games,” coach Lane Greiman said. “Both Wheatland and Cheyenne played well. I thought our boys executed very well in the field (against Wheatland) as well as at the plate.”
Cheyenne proved a tougher challenge.
“Cheyenne’s starting pitcher threw a good game, holding our bats to minimum damage,” coach Greiman added. “If we would have come out cleaner in the first inning, I believe the baseball game would have been a tight one. All the boys played well in both games and are starting to get a feel for what we are doing as a program. We are looking more and more like a well-rounded baseball club.”
The Tigers host the Bullock Tournament at the sports complex and Jirdon Park this weekend. Torrington plays Alliance at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 6, followed by Riverton at 7 p.m. The Tigers take on Buffalo at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday (Jirdon Park) before playing RM at 3:30 p.m.
