TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers ‘A’ Legion baseball team squared off against the Laramie Rangers ‘AA’ squad for a home double-header at Bullock Field in Torrington on Sunday, April 27.

The first game was close with the Tigers pulling into the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Laramie gained control of the scoreboard with six runs in the fifth inning. Torrington came up short in closing the gap and the Rangers posted the win, 11-7.

Laramie went on to win the second game, 12-1.

“Laramie has a good team,” coach Lane Greiman said. “They hit the ball and made the plays they needed to. Our boys played well, hit the ball and scored some runs in game one, but we hurt ourselves by having six errors in that game. The boys are trying hard and we just have to clean up our game and fine-tune a few things before the season gets rolling.”

In the first game, both teams tallied one run in the first inning for a 1-1 deadlock. Following a scoreless second inning, Torrington took the lead, 2-1, with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Moorehouse singled, driving in Ayden Desmond.

Two runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth inning placed Torrington ahead, 3-1. Desmond hit a grounder for one RBI while Grady Shields singled, sending one runner home.

Laramie responded with six runs in the top of the fifth inning and four in the seventh to clinch the win.

Torrington collected 12 hits against Laramie in the first game, led by Caleb Kelly with three. Drew Kramer, Desmond and Mac Hibben each tallied two hits with one apiece by Shields, Moorehouse and Connor Correll.

Shields opened as pitcher for the Tigers, striking out five over four innings. Colby Sandusky played relief, striking out two in three innings.

Laramie set the pace in the second game, tallying two runs in the top of the first inning, three in the second and two in the third while shutting out the Tigers.

Torrington scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning when James Stienmetz flew into a fielder’s choice to drive Ty Albaugh home.

Kramer, Shields, Hibben and Albaugh each recorded one hit in the second game.

Moorehouse started as pitcher for the Tigers for two innings. Hibben came in as relief for 2.1 innings, striking out six. Correll and Albaugh played additional relief.
