Tigers ‘A’ beat Chadron

CHADRON – A long bus ride to Chadron, Nebraska, paid dividends for the Torrington Tigers ‘A’ Legion baseball team with back-to-back wins in a double-header on Saturday, May 10.

The Tigers trounced Chadron in the first game, 14-5. The second game was closer with Torrington pulling ahead by two runs to post a 4-2 victory.

Game 1

The first inning ended in a 5-5 stalemate. Torrington responded with two runs in the top of the second inning while the Tigers’ fielders shut out Chadron in the bottom.

Torrington clinched the win in the third inning, outscoring Chadron, 5-0.

Caleb Kelly led the Tigers offense in the first game, recording three hits for two RBI. Ryan Moorehouse tallied two hits for two RBI while Drew Kramer, Landre Greiman, Colby Sandusky and Grady Shields each totaled one hit.

Kelly opened as pitcher for Torrington, striking out two. Connor Correll pitched relief, striking out three.

Game 2

Following a scoreless first inning, Torrington pulled up with one run in the top of the second. Sandusky sacrificed a grounder, driving Correll home.

In the bottom of the second, the Tigers’ fielders shut out their opponent. Chadron grounded out to Kelly at first and Shields fielded a line ball in center field. Greiman struck out one as pitcher.

Torrington’s fielders again prevented Chadron from scoring in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. In the bottom of the third, Chadron ground out to Correll on third base. Correll tossed the ball to Kelly on first for the out. Greiman struck out two.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kramer fielded a fly ball at second base. Sandusky caught line ball at left field and Greiman struck out one.

The Tigers remained ahead in the fifth inning, 3-2, with both teams tallying two runs. 

Mac Hibben smashed a home run into right field, driving home Shields.

A single run by the Tigers in the top of the sixth inning clinched the win for Torrington when Greiman tripled for one RBI.

A solid Tigers defense shut out Chadron in the bottom of the sixth. Greiman struck out two and Kelly fielded a ground ball at first base.

Torrington tallied nine hits in the second game, led by Moorehouse with three. Shields picked up two hits with one apiece by Greiman, Hibben, Kelly and Correll.

Greiman pitched six innings for the Tigers, striking out eight. Hibben came in as relief for Torrington, striking out three.
