CHEYENNE – The Torrington Tigers ‘A’ Legion baseball team battled back from a setback against the Cheyenne Eagles in the first game of a double-header on Tuesday, June 24, to trounce the Eagles in the second game.
The Eagles took advantage of an 8-0 run in the fourth inning of the first game to post a 15-6 win.
The Tigers returned in the second game determined to defeat Cheyenne. Steady scoring by the Torrington offense throughout seven innings resulted in 12 runs while a tenacious Tigers defense held Cheyenne to a single run to clinch a 12-1 victory.
“Cheyenne played really well against us,” coach Lane Greiman said. “(Eagles coach) Carter Mossey has done a great job getting his team fundamentally sound. Cheyenne put the ball in play well and executed better than we did in game one resulting in a loss. However, game two was more favorable for us as we ended up splitting the series with them.”
The Tigers are looking forward to the home stretch of the season in July.
“The boys are working hard and as a staff that is all we can ask,” coach Greiman added. “They are continuing to improve each week while moving forward into the season.”
