THS recognizes excellence

TORRINGTON – Torrington High School celebrated the achievements of its students during the annual awards assembly held this past Monday. The event recognized exceptional academic performance, artistic talent, athletic dedication, and all-around excellence across all grade levels and departments.

Students were honored from each academic department for their outstanding contributions. Gabriel Posten and Natalie Long were named Social Studies Students of the Year. Weston Dyer received the Business Student of the Year award. Emma Kuhns was recognized as both the Family Consumer Science Student of the Year and the Art Student of the Year. Math students of the Year were Karis Walker and Yeraly Orazbek. English Students of the Year included Aubreeana Briggs, Kaia Jacobson, Sawyer Massie, and Teryn Stokes. Spanish Students of the Year were Cayson Morris, Inez Chavez, Salma Beltran, Iris Terrones, Addie Hager, and Sophia Correa. Music honors went to Keegan Black, Mason Wilkes, Madison Copenbarger and Elias Bustamante. Mac Hibben and Milagros Valdez-Chavez were named physical education students of the year. Science students of the Year included Teryn Stokes, Natalie Hawes, Hayden Barth, Alyssa Voshell and Olivia Edmunds. Jeramiah Haffner received recognition as the auto student of the year, while Silas Kiiskinen earned the industrial arts student of the year award.

Student athletes were also recognized for their commitment and success in athletics. Ryleigh Connelly and Illyana Sanchez were honored as the freshman student athletes, while Laney Walter and Benaiah Steinbrecher received the distinction for the sophomore class. Junior student athletes included Natalie Hawes, Natalie Long and Trishell Pontarolo. Teryn Stokes and Brayden Hime were selected as the senior student athletes. Mac Hibben, Hunter Massie and Teryn Stokes were named to the American All-Conference team. Several students were acknowledged as three-sport letter winners, including Brooklyn Asmus, Aaron Chavez, Aftyn Hager, Natalie Hawes, Brayden Hime, Drew Kramer, Natalie Long, Madix McIntosh, Ellis Mortimore, Tyler Nicolay, Trishell Pontarolo, Colby Sandusky, Benaiah Steinbrecher, Teryn Stokes and Zeke Yung.

The highest athletic honors of the year went to Teryn Stokes, who was named the 2024–2025 female athlete of the year, and Tyler Nicolay, who was named male athlete of the year.

Academic achievement was also highlighted, with several students being recognized for multiple semesters on the gold honor roll. Amelia Beck, Sarah Birdsall, Maggie Johnson and Teryn Stokes have all remained on the gold honor roll for an impressive seven semesters.

Torrington High also honored its top performing graduating seniors. Leanna Hunter, Kaden Romig, Zoe Hoff, Mac Hibben, Brayden Hime, Wittni Bugher and Amelia Beck were named 2025 honor graduates. Maggie Jacobson was honored as the salutatorian, while Teryn Stokes was named the valedictorian of the graduating class. In addition, Sarah Birdsall, Zoe Hoff and Maggie Jacobson were recognized for completing dual enrollment graduation at Eastern Wyoming College.

Class awards were presented to students who demonstrated exceptional leadership and academic success within their grade levels. Karis Walker was named the 2025 freshman of the year. Macauley McIntosh received sophomore of the year. Trishell Pontarolo earned junior of the year honors. Finally, Teryn Stokes and Brayden Hime were celebrated as the 2025 Blazers of the Year.

The awards assembly served as a proud and inspiring celebration of Torrington High School’s student body, shining a light on the talent, perseverance, and dedication of its students.
