SCOTTSBLUFF – The Southeast High School track teams battled cold temperatures, drizzle and gray skies at the Western Nebraska Twilight invitational hosted by Scottsbluff on April 25.

Despite the weather, both the boys and girls teams rose to the occasion, collecting 16 medals for top-eight placings, including one gold.

The Lady Cyclones progressed to the No. 4 spot on the girls’ team leaderboard out of seven schools with 68 points. A smaller Southeast boys’ squad finished seventh with 10 points.

Freshman Cole Tregemba captured gold in the boys’ long-distance 3200-meter run. Tregemba reached the finish line with a time of 10 minutes, 55.75 minutes – finishing 5.7 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Asher Saka of Alliance.

“We had a great meet at Scottsbluff,” coach Jeff Fullmer wrote. “We are trending in the right direction for the season. We still have some work to do before regionals and the state, but the team is putting in the work.”

Girls top eight medalists

In throwing events, sophomore Haylee Eckwall snagged silver in the shot put with a mark of 36 feet, 9 inches. Ekwall also scooped up bronze in the discus, posting a mark of 100-09.

Junior Hadley Leithead advanced to the No. 2 spot on the discus leaderboard, clearing 101-09.

Sophomore Bailey Mehling picked up hardware in three events. Hitting a mark of 32-04 in the triple jump, Mehling snapped up bronze.

Mehling also took bronze in the 400-meters, timing in at 1:05.34. The sophomore went on to place fifth in the 100-meters with a time of 13.60 seconds.

Junior Kaycee Kosmicki garnered silver in the 400-meters, reaching the finish line at 1:01.91. Kosmicki also clinched fourth place in the 800-meters at 2:39.29.

Senior Taylar Hansen medaled in two individual events in Scottsbluff. Clearing 7-06 in the pole vault, Hansen took seventh place. Hansen went on to bag fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles at 17.65 seconds.

Freshman Kaylee Moats came in eighth place in the long jump with a mark of 13-10.

Relay highlights included a second-place finish for freshman Meaghan Hooper, senior Anna Hartman, junior Keana Llewellyn and senior Angie Logsdon in the 4x800-meters at 11:37.73.

Hansen, junior Molly Hasbargen, Moats and freshman Avery Tighe picked up fourth place in the 4x100-meter relay, timing in at 55.75 seconds.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Tighe, Moats, Mehling and Kosmicki finished fourth with a time of 4:33.18.

Boys top eight

The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Connor Coxbill, senior William Knowlton, Tregemba and sophomore Trevor Jolovich snagged seventh place, timing in at 4:07.86.

• 100-meters: Hansen in 14th place at 14.34 seconds, Hasbargen 17th at 14.60 and Tighe 18th at 14.68.

• 200-meters: Moats in 10th place at 30.14 seconds, Hasbargen 13th at 30.82 and Tighe 14th at 31.50.

• 400-meters: Logsdon in 12th place at 1:13.03.

• 800-meters: Llewellyn in 11th place at 3:02.34.

• 100-hurdles: Kaylee Gibson in 16th place at 23.08 seconds.

• 300-hurdles: Gibson in 13th place at 1:17.46.

• Shot put: Brooklyn Leithead in 12th place at 27-06, Hadley Leithead 14th at 26-05 and Briley Leithead 18th at 23-08.

• Discus: Brooklyn Leithead in ninth place at 78-00 and Briley Leithead 12th at 76-07.

• High jump: Hooper in 10th place at 4-04.

• 100-meters: Liam Haas in 18th place at 12.78 seconds, Ben Gibbons 21st at 13.98, Emmett Coxbill 22nd at 14.86 and Jack Hartman 23rd at 16.22.

• 200-meters: Haas in 11th place at 25.32 seconds, Gauge Howe 19th at 27.77 and Emmett Coxbill 20th at 31.18.

• 400-meters: Connor Coxbill in 16th place at 1:00.45 and Jolovich 17th at 1:00.59.

• 800-meters: Knowlton in 13th place at 2:23.99.

• Shot put: Drew Boche in 15th place at 32-09, Howe 17th at 32-00, Alec DeMarce 20th at 30-06 and Sebastian Brumley 22nd at 30-02.

• Discus: Boche in 17th place at 89-08, DeMarce 19th at 80-01, Brumley 23rd at 73-09 and Howe 24th at 73-01.

• Long jump: Jolovich in 14th place at 16-05, Haas 18th at 15-10 and Gibbons 20th at 14-08.

• Triple jump: Jolovich in ninth place at 36-06 and Connor Coxbill 16th at 31-11 ¾.
