Mechanical malfunction to blame for MVA

TORRINGTON – Tuesday, May 21,  afternoon, the Torrington Police Department and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the parking lot of a business, located off main street, for the report of a car which hit the building and a possible intoxicated driver.

“Our officers responded to a report of an accident at the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store at approximately 1:45 p.m. (Tuesday) afternoon. The initial report was that a vehicle had struck the building,” police chief Matt Johnson said.

“When officers responded, they found that a red Pontiac coupe had gone over the curb and impacted the building on the northeast corner, twice. The driver of the vehicle was a male resident of Torrington, who reported that the brakes on the vehicle had failed, and he was at the store to get parts for repair,” the chief continued.

The department conducted the investigation.

“The driver was cited for operating an unsafe vehicle into municipal court,” Johnson said. “Fortunately, there were no injuries and relatively minor damage to the building.”
