TORRINGTON – William Neu was elected Colorado & Wyoming Department Commander at the 96th Encampment, becoming the first Wyoming citizen so honored.
In this position, Neu will be responsible for Camps located in Colorado, Montana, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. He is a member of the Francis E. Warren Camp 44 and has served as secretary treasurer, Eagle Scout Coordinator, and camp commander. He is also member of the new Col. Henry B. Carrington Camp 3, Casper in which he was instrumental in forming.
Neu is employed with the Wyoming Department of Corrections – Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington. Retired Army National Guard
Union veterans of the Civil War organized the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) which existed until 1956 when the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) was formed. The SUVCW is the legal successor to the GAR and in 1954 was officially incorporated by an Act of Congress. It is a nation-wide organization, comprised of more than 200 community-based Camps, which are organized under 26 Departments.
