MITCHELL – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) track teams found success regardless of gray weather at the George Calvert Invitational hosted by Mitchell on April 25.
The LFL boys battled to the No. 2 spot on the team leaderboard, beating five other schools with 132 points. Collectively, the boys scooped up 24 top eight medals and six golds. The Lady Doggers snagged bronze as a team with 95 points, 24 top eight medals and one gold.
Senior Louden Bremer set a new track meet record in the 300-meter hurdles. Louden clinched first place in the event at 41.45 seconds, besting the old record of 41.70 seconds set in 2008.
The boys’ 4x400-meter team of senior Nathan Fish, junior Brady Cook, Bremer and senior Brody Roberts also struck gold with a new meet record. The team crossed the finish line at 3 minutes, 39.47 seconds. The previous record was set in 2012 at 3:40.10.
“It was a great day for Dogger track and field in Mitchell,” coach Mike Lashley said. “We got a chance to look at some kids in new events and I think the results are promising. We had multiple PRs at the meet even though the weather was a bit cool and wet. I am very pleased with where both teams are right now.”
Roberts captured gold in two boys’ events. Hitting a mark of 39 feet, 10 ¾ inches in the triple jump, Roberts advanced to the No. 1 spot on the event leaderboard.
Roberts garnered gold with a time of 52.10 seconds, finishing 2.01 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Bridgeport.
Senior Cooper Smith bagged gold in the boys’ 100-meters, timing in at 11.95 seconds. The race for the top spot came down to the wire with Smith beating Leyton’s Alec Watchorn by one-hundredth of a second.
Sophomore Tyler Smith won the boys’ 1600-meters, clocking in at 5:14.87. The sophomore beat the second-place finisher from Mitchell by 0.95 seconds.
Junior Jordynn Speckner struck gold in the girls’ 1600-meters, timing in at 5:58.06. Speckner reached the finish line 17 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Mitchell.
The boys’ 4x800-meter relay team rounded out gold medals at Mitchell. Tyler Smith, sophomore Trent Dennis, freshman Ethan Teeters and Nathan Fish beat Mitchell by 12.62 seconds to win at 9:19.54.
Boys top eight medalists
Roberts snapped up silver in the 200-meters, timing in at 23.77 seconds.
Teeters capture silver in the triple jump, clearing 36-04.
Three Doggers battled to the top eight in the pole vault, led by Nathan Fish in second place at 10-03. Junior Amon Napier took bronze, clearing 9-03, with freshman Briggs Erskine eighth at 7-03.
Napier went on to finish eighth in the 400-meters, clocking in at 59.12 seconds.
Two LFL tracksters made the top eight in the 800-meters with Dennis in fourth place, posting a time of 2:18.88, and Erskine eighth at 2:39.91.
Freshman Arthur Hilliard pulled into eighth place in the 1600-meters at 6:13.94.
Bremer clinched bronze in the 110-meter hurdles, reaching the finish line in 17.00 seconds. Brady Cook bagged fourth place in the event with a time of 17.18 seconds.
Bremer also scooped up fourth place in the long jump, hitting a mark of 16-11 ¼. Junior Rhett Clarke placed eighth in the event at 16-04.
Clarke went on to take fifth place in the high jump with a mark of 5-01.
In the shot put, Cooper Smith secured fourth place, reaching a mark of 37-05 ½, while junior Colter McFarlin picked up seventh place at 34-06 ¼. Smith also garnered fifth place in the discus at 115-07.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Cooper Smith, Clarke, Teeters and Brady Cook pulled into third place at 47.49 seconds.
Girls top eight
Speckner clinched silver in the 400-meters, reaching the finish line in 1:07.36.
Three Lady Doggers advanced to the top eight in the 100-meter hurdles, led by senior Jada Kaufman in second place at 18.12 seconds. Fellow senior Grace Gibson took fourth place, posting a time of 18.64 seconds, while freshman Madyn Clarke placed seventh at 19.73 seconds.
In the 300-meter hurdles, sophomore Addi Wilkins led the LFL pack in third place, timing in at 49.96 seconds. Kaufman bagged fourth place in the event, clocking in at 51.38 seconds, while Gibson placed fifth at 52.27 seconds.
A trio of distance runners made the top eight in the 3200-meters, led by junior Anna Frederick in third place at 14:21.42. Freshman Cate Kinberg finished fourth, clocking in 14:25.39, while senior Haven Torres placed eighth at 16:09.23.
Frederick went on to snag seventh place in the 1600-meters, clocking in at 6:36.30. Frederick also scooped up bronze in the pole vault, clearing 6-09.
Timing the 100-meters in at 14.39 seconds, senior Kenzie Wilkins snapped up seventh place.
A trio of LFL tracksters progressed to the top eight in the triple jump with Addi Wilkins in second place at 29-02 ¾. Junior Kaiten Schilreff captured bronze, hitting a mark of 28-10 ½, while Speckner placed eighth at 27-01.
Schilreff went on to finish fifth in the long jump, reaching a mark of 13-02 ½.
In throwing events, senior Brenly Shipp came in fifth place in the shot put with a mark of 27-07. Fellow senior Alisha McGraw took sixth place at 27-06.
Shipp also picked up seventh place in the discus, reaching a mark of 78-03.
The 4x400-meter relay team – Gibson, Kenzie Wilkins, Kaufman and Addi Wilkins – pulled into second place with a time of 4:24.25.
Junior Keira Fleenor, Addi Wilkins, Kenzie Wilkins and Schilreff raced to the No. 3 spot in the 4x100-meter relay, timing in at 56.21 seconds.
In the 4x800-meter relay, freshman Madison Bugher, Fleenor, Torres and freshman Olivia Kile finished fourth at 12:57.48.
