LFL defeats Niobrara

LUSK – A 3-1 victory by the Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers against Niobrara County on Friday, October 24, culminated in a 16-11 overall record for LFL at the close of the regular season.

On Thursday, the Lady Doggers battled Southeast in the final cross-county rivalry game of the season. LFL led for most of the first set and came within one or two points of overtaking the Lady Cyclones in the third set. When the dust settled, Southeast won in three sets, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-20.

The Lady Doggers totaled 34 points in SEWAC to clinch the No. 2 seed going into the 1A East regional tournament hosted by Buffalo from Friday through Saturday, October 31-November 1.

LFL opens regionals with a game against the third seed from the Northeast, Midwest, on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Niobrara County

The Lady Doggers commenced the first set with an 8-5 run, opening with an ace by senior Anna Frederick. Senior Skyla Wunder slammed a pair of kills. Sophomore Hayden Willey followed with a kill.

The Lady Doggers remained ahead, 11-6, with a kill by senior Hallie Fuller.

Niobrara County pulled up to match LFL in scoring at 11. Fuller aced a serve and the initiative returned to the Lady Doggers, 12-11.

The back-and-forth continued for the remainder of the set. An ace by junior Charlotte Speckner broke a tie at 16.

Sophomore Shaylyn Wunder delivered a kill to place LFL up, 18-17.

Niobrara County regained the lead at 19 and went on a 3-1 run to take the lead, 22-19.

Fuller and Charlotte Speckner responded with kills and the set tied again at 22.

Niobrara County responded with a point and the set deadlocked at 23.

Fuller powered over a kill and LFL found itself up, 24-23.

An ace by senior Jordynn Speckner resulted in game point, 25-23.

Niobrara County won the second set, 25-19.

The Lady Doggers came out with an 8-2 run to begin the third set. Charlotte Speckner tipped over the first point. Frederick aced a serve. Fuller followed with a kill and two aces while Charlotte Speckner slammed a kill.

LFL continued to dominate the third set with a 9-4 run, including kills by junior Addison Wilkins, Shaylyn Wunder and Willey. Skyla Wunder aced two serves and Fuller reached up for a block.

The Lady Doggers reached 20 with a kill from Fuller. Skyla Wunder and Charlotte Speckner both defended the net for 21 and 22. Frederick took LFL to 24 with a kill.

Niobrara County regained possession but served the ball out for the Lady Doggers to score game point, 25-16.

The fourth set proved closer with a tie at 10. Junior Kynzie Thomas aced three serves and LFL recaptured the lead, 12-10.

A series of errors by the Lady Tigers and a tip from Charlotte Speckner widened the Lady Doggers’ lead, 17-13.

An ace by Fuller resulted in a 20-15 lead for LFL. Shaylyn Wunder spiked a kill and Fuller aced another serve. Skyla Wunder followed with a kill and the Lady Doggers led, 24-17.

Niobrara County sent the ball into the net returning a serve by Charlotte Speckner for game point, 25-17.
